The April 12, 1964 color portrait of NY Yankee Yogi Berra is on the cover of the Sunday New York News. The large, 13.5"x11", twenty-seven page insert is full of articles, photos and vintage ads. Canoe / Kayak History Tour in North Tivoli Bay, NY

Join Town of Red Hook/ Village of Tivoli Historian Emily Majer on a paddle through the beautiful North Tivoli Bay, out into the Hudson to explore the "ruins" on South Cruger’s Island. Jealous of the picturesque ruins of Europe, John Church Cruger built a folly of arches on the island in 1842, where he displayed Mayan relics from the Yucatan city of Uxmal. The scene delighted steamboat passengers and guests to the Cruger family’s eponymous island home nearby. The relics were sold to the American Museum of Natural History in 1919.

The tour can accommodate two people in a canoe and two in kayaks, provided by the tour guide. If people prefer to use their own boats, that’s fine. Paddles, life jackets, and light snacks will be provided as well. Total time on the river and island will be about three hours. There is quite a bit of paddling involved so some experience is strongly suggested. The trip can be redeemed in the spring or summer of 2025.
