The OLANA Private Landscape and Historic House Combo Tour

The complete Olana touring experience in one package! Led by an OLANA staff member for up to 5 people, this two-hour combination tour begins with a 60-minute guided tour in the electric vehicle of Frederic Church’s artist-designed landscape, followed by a complete tour of both floors of the Main House. 4-week advance reservation is required. This tour involves several flights of stairs.

ABOUT OLANA - Olana is the masterwork of Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900), the preeminent American artist of the mid-19th Century. Olana’s 250-acre artist-designed landscape and Historic House embraces unrivaled panoramic views of the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains, and welcomes more than 170,000 visitors annually. Olana is a public park and is open daily from 8 AM to sunset. Admission to the park is free of charge. Frederic Church used landscape painting to convey the expansionist, optimistic worldview of mid-19th century America. His panoramic canvases emphasize meticulous atmospheric and botanical detail. Viewers delighted in identifying specific species of plants and birds, the strata in rocks, and various cloud formations. Church wanted to use art to reconcile the latest revelations of the natural sciences and the age-old evidence of the divine in nature. Today, Church is acknowledged as a leader within the Hudson River School, often called the first truly American style of painting. Frederic Church is well-known as a painter, but he was also a world traveler, a family man, and a self-taught architect, farmer and landscape designer. He and his wife Isabel were pious, well-read, and fun-loving. They raised four children at their estate overlooking the Hudson. Though Frederic and Isabel Church moved among New York City’s cultural tastemakers, Olana was their primary home. https://www.olana.org/
