Old Rip Van Winkle Handmade 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Pickup Only, Rhinebeck, NY

Introducing the Old Rip Van Winkle Handmade 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a true gem for bourbon enthusiasts. Aged for a decade, this handcrafted bourbon delivers a harmonious blend of rich caramel, vanilla, and oak, accented by hints of spice and honey. Each sip offers a smooth and lingering finish that reflects the meticulous craftsmanship and tradition of the Van Winkle legacy.

What is the Holy Grail of bourbon? Many whiskey drinkers consider the Pappy Van Winkle line to be the holy grail of bourbon.

Elevate your collection with this rare and exceptional bourbon, available exclusively at Cana Wine Co.

VALUE $1,000

Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

This bourbon whiskey is bottled at nearly barrel proof. Just a splash of Kentucky limestone water is added after a decade of aging. Rich, yet smooth, this bourbon takes a back seat to none.

A sweet vanilla nose with caramel, pecan and oak wood. Smooth, mellow flavor consisting of robust wheat, cherries and oak. Features a long, smoky wheat finish with hints of fruit, spice and oak tannins.

At 107 proof, this wonderful bourbon is bottled as close to barrel proof as possible. We add just a splash of our Kentucky limestone well-water when we empty the barrels for bottling. Thus, this whiskey is as smooth as any you will find.

Tasting Notes

See a rich, copper color. Smell enticingly sweet, spicy, caramel-nut-fudge aromas. Enjoy a fruity, medium-to full-bodied palate with intense dried fruit and toasted nuts notes. Each sip finishes with a very long, bold wave of peppery brown spices, floral honey and charred barrel flavors that balance the weight of the alcohol. It’s a big, bold, aged bourbon that has great balance for its high proof and flavor.

History

Pappy began working at W.L. Weller & Sons first as a traveling whiskey salesman and eventually as the President of Stitzel-Weller Distillery. He helped shape the industry during and after Prohibition. Through his endeavors in the warehouse, the boardroom and on the road, he built a reputation in the bourbon industry that was second to none. Fine bourbon was his mission, and he accepted nothing less.

Pappy's son, Julian Jr., operated the distillery from 1964 until the family sold it in 1972. After, not one to be defeated, he got himself an office and a secretary and formed a company called J.P. Van Winkle and Son. He got into marketing bourbon through many types of commemorative decanters, some of the more popular being for universities. But he never stopped bottling on the side. He created the Old Rip Van Winkle label as a side venture in case his son, Julian III, wanted to come into the business.

Julian III took over the business in 1981 after his father passed away. He was 32 years old with a wife and four young children. The premium bourbon business was in a lull, but 90 years ago, Pappy started from the ground up, too. So, with this same, innate passion, Julian purchased the Old Hoffman Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, for barrel storage and bottling purposes. He couldn't afford much advertising, but the quality of Old Rip Van Winkle sold itself. Julian III and his impeccable palate created quite a stir.

When first approached by Buffalo Trace, Julian III was honored, but not immediately interested. He had ample bourbon aging, but the concern was for future reserves, since by this time, bourbon was increasing in popularity. Buffalo Trace bought the W.L. Weller label in 1999 and had been making the bourbon with nearly the same recipe as Pappy's. The transition was easy. As of May 2002, Buffalo Trace has produced the Van Winkle bourbons, using Pappy's exact recipe. This change allows Old Rip Van Winkle to maintain their strict quality standards while producing more barrels for future enjoyment.

Antique Harness / Leather Makers Vise ca. Mid to Late 19th Century, Pickup Only, Rhinebeck, NY

This harness / leathermaker’s vice came from the summer home of Justice Charles H. Robb 1867-1939. Justice Robb was a US appeals judge from 1906 until 1937. It includes some original tools, and measures 28 inches tall. Courtesy of his Great-Granddaughter Melissa Billings and her husband Rick Soedler. The harness / leather maker’s vise was an invaluable tool allowing the craftsman to precisely hold and steady the item on which he was working. It essentially gave the worker an extra set of hands. The harness-maker’s vise was sometimes referred to as a saddle-maker’s vise when being used for that purpose. The pedal at the base has an adjustable bar to allow the vise to be opened and closed without using one’s hands.

Framed Ltd. Ed. Renegades/Dutchess Stadium Grand Opening Poster, Pickup Only, Rhinebeck, NY

Framed, matted under glass Inaugural 1994 Renegades Baseball/Dutchess Stadium Signed and numbered, Ltd. edition Poster by artist Linda Pault. The Legend on the back identifies every one of the people in the stadium stands. The artist met personally with every person in the poster to take a Polaroid photo of them in a unique animated pose to be replicated in the full color artwork. According to DCHS President, Robert Doyle, "Linda took a Polaroid photo of me with both arms in the air and my mouth opened wide. This pose of me was used in the full color poster at the center top holding up the "G." letter. At the time, 1994, I was the Chairperson of the Board of the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce that sponsored this Poster project."

The GSDCOC President was Marsha Gordon, who you can see holding up the "R." The poster is loaded with people that were instrumental in bringing the stadium to Southern Dutchess County and also famous personalities such as Paul Newman and James Earl Jones. The poster, team and stadium are celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year! Framed poster measuring 32"x28" overall.

This might just be the only framed and matted, Limited Edition, Artist signed and numbered (15/500) Renegades poster with the original Legend identifying everyone, that also has the original Poughkeepsie Journal insert announcing the Renegades and introducing all the original players.

What’s it worth? My reasonable estimate is $300. But, it sells regardless of price to benefit DCHS.

Enjoy four tickets to a live cinema transmission of TOSCA - Puccini on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2024 at the Bardavon Theater, Market Street, Poughkeepsie NY.

Extraordinary soprano Lise Davidsen stars as the volatile diva Floria Tosca for her first time at the Met. David McVicar’s thrilling production also features tenor Freddie De Tommaso in his eagerly anticipated company debut as Tosca’s revolutionary lover, Cavaradossi, and powerhouse baritone Quinn Kelsey as the sadistic chief of police Scarpia. Met Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducts the electrifying score, which features some of Puccini's most memorable melodies. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

Puccini’s melodrama about a volatile diva, a sadistic police chief, and an idealistic artist has offended and thrilled audiences for more than a century. Critics, for their part, have often had problems with Tosca’s rather grungy subject matter, the directness and intensity of its score, and the crowd-pleasing dramatic opportunities it provides for its lead roles. But these same aspects have made Tosca one of a handful of iconic works that seem to represent opera in the public imagination. Tosca’s popularity is further secured by a superb and exhilarating dramatic sweep, a driving score of abundant melody and theatrical shrewdness, and a career-defining title role. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe. https://www.bardavon.org/
