Dutchess County Historical Society (DCHS) Fundraising Auction of Unique Experiences and Gift Certificates Ending 11/17

100% of the auction proceeds benefit the DCHS. Every lot sells to the highest bidder. Payment will be made directly to DCHS, a 501-C3 Not for Profit Corporation so no sales tax will be charged. There is a 15% Buyers Premium which will also be going to the DCHS.

The DCHS does not receive any Federal, State or County funding. It relies solely on donations, membership dues and private sponsorships from people like you. Please support the 100+ year old “Mission” of the DCHS that has “collected, preserved and interpreted the history of Dutchess County, NY, from the period of the arrival of the first Native Americans until the present day.”

Payment must be completed by Friday, November 22 at 3PM.

All lots sold as is, where is. There is a 15% Buyers Premium for all lots purchased. Payment methods are cash, check, Visa, MasterCard & Amex.

DCHS is located at 6282 Route 9, Rhinebeck, NY. Normal open hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM during which time you can take a close up look at many of the physical items in the auction. Hear about the notable achievements of General Jacobus Swartwout from DCHS Trustee and Town of East Fishkill historian Rick Soedler who will be in period costume. Your exclusive tour will be followed by a champagne and charcuterie board reception!

General Jacobus Swartwout, born in 1734, was a member of the Commission for Detecting Conspiracies along with John Jay and Melancton Smith. The men met in Fishkill during the Revolution. As a Colonel, General Swartwout was the commanding officer of the 1st Regiment of the Dutchess County Militia, and numerous other regiments of troops. He also served with the NYS Convention and had a part in the state ratifying the US Constitution. During Marquis de Lafayette's farewell tour of the United States in 1824, General Swartwout rode horseback from his home at the age of 89 to dine next to the Marquis at a reception held in honor of Lafayette at the City of Poughkeepsie. The General passed away in 1827.
