$250 Gift Certificate to Adams Fairacre Farms, Wappingers & Poughkeepsie, NY

Inside every Adams Fairacre Farms store there is a heritage of freshness and value that grew out of a farm founded by Ralph A. and Mary Rogers Adams in 1919. We've never forgotten our roots. Mary and Ralph planted more than just a farm. They planted an idea; a deep commitment to serving their customers with the best fresh produce around. Out of that commitment grew a store, then three more stores. But all the time, at the root of it was Mary, Ralph, their children and grandchildren. Generations of customers and generations of Adams family members have recognized that under the Adams Fairacre Farms sign you'll find nothing but the best.

Today, there are four Adams stores around the Hudson River Valley – in Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Wappinger and Newburgh – and we are always up to new tricks. Every week in every store there are new products, new tastes and new sale items. We keep it fresh, we keep it cheerful and if you can't find something, please ask. Every Adams employee is eager to make your shopping experience easy. Value $250.

Behind-the-Ropes Tour of Locust Grove Mansion, Poughkeepsie NY

Completed in 1851, the Italianate style mansion at Locust Grove was designed by architect Alexander Jackson Davis for Samuel F. B. Morse, the inventor of the telegraph. After Morse's death in 1872, his family spent less time in Poughkeepsie and eventually emptied the mansion and rented the estate.

William and Martha Young moved to Locust Grove in 1895 and bought the property from Morse's heirs in 1901. William and Martha Young's daughter Annette and son Innis also worked to preserve and restore the house, which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964. Annette Young died in 1975, establishing in her will a trust so that her house, property and collections of paintings and decorative arts could be opened to the public.

Today the mansion is open to the public but not "behind-the-ropes!" Your private tour for eight people escorted by Executive Director Ken Snodgrass will reveal the family histories, and offer an engaging experience with the collection. Wine and cheese on the veranda overlooking the Hudson River will follow your exclusive tour. Value $300. https://www.lgny.org/

$100 Gift Certificate to Davies Hardware in Poughkeepsie, one of the Hudson Valley's oldest family run stores!

In 1888, their son, William H. Davies saved enough money from working the local brickyard to purchase the Main Street property where Davies Hardware Inc stands, to this day. It was first a butcher shop, which also sold general merchandise. Behind the store was a livery stable, where people would rent a horse and carriage.

Eventually, the store evolved into a general supply and feed store. The business was built on friendships and handshakes, as Davies would sell work tools, clothes, shoes and boots, paint, grain, and feed. Carloads of feed would arrive at Cottage Street Railroad Station where the stores work truck would pick it up and deliver to local farmers. Friendly service and quality goods helped build the store into a local mainstay.

Matthew and Anthony Davies grew up in the hardware store and developed the commercial side of the business. Surviving his father James, Matthew continued the Davies family tradition by maintaining the "customer first" approach and teaching the trade to the next (5th) generation, with his oldest daughter, Jennifer Davies-Sadowski. Jennifer will continue to provide service to the Hudson Valley, advancing her families 19th-century store, while maintaining the traditions of her heritage. Value $100.

Private behind the scenes tour for two with champagne at Mills Mansion, Staatsburgh, NY.

Originally built in 1832 and greatly expanded in the 1890's, the mansion at Staatsburgh State Historic Site is emblematic of the great country estates built in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to house America's wealthiest families.

Referred to locally as Mills Mansion, it is an elegant example of the beautiful homes built by America's financial and industrial leaders during the Gilded Age. A 25-room Greek Revival structure was built on the site in 1832 by Morgan Lewis and his wife, Gertrude Livingston, replacing an earlier house that had burned down. This second house was inherited by Ruth Livingston Mills, wife of noted financier and philanthropist Ogden Mills.

In 1895, Mr. and Mrs. Mills commissioned the prestigious New York City architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White to remodel and enlarge their Staatsburgh home. After completion in 1896, the house had been transformed into a Beaux-Arts mansion of 65 rooms and 14 bathrooms. Its exterior was embellished with balustrades, pilasters, floral swags, and a massive portico. The rooms were furnished with elaborately carved and gilded furniture, fine oriental rugs, silk fabrics, and a collection of art objects from Europe, ancient Greece, and the Far East. Pride in the family's Livingston heritage was also demonstrated in the prominent display of portraits of Mrs. Mills' ancestors through the mansion. Value $500.

Enjoy a historical tour for up to 10 people by guide Fred Schaeffer, former Chairman of the Walkway Over the Hudson Organization during the bridge's conversion from abandoned railroad bridge to the longest dedicated pedestrian bridge in the world.

Learn the history of the bridge that sits 212 feet above the Hudson River, stretching for over one mile between the hills on either side of the river. Because it stretches between hillsides, it's an easy walk with no steps and only one short gradual incline on one side of the bridge.

The Walkway is on what was formerly the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge, an engineering marvel, which was built in the 1880's. Fred will tell you the fascinating story of how a groundswell of support led to a unique public and private partnership to convert the abandoned bridge into the Walkway Over the Hudson.

Since opening to the public in 2009 it has had three million visitors from all over the world. Fred will share photographs of what the bridge looked like before and during its renovation. As you walk, you will see, in person, the breathtaking views of the Hudson River Valley from the Walkway.

Fred Schaeffer is a resident of Pleasant Valley, NY and has been a practicing attorney in Dutchess County for over 30 years. He is a former President of the Dutchess County Bar Association. His hobbies of bicycling, photography and history led to an interest in the historic Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge. In January of 2004 he became Chairman of the Walkway over the Hudson organization, a non-profit group, which owned the bridge. As Chairman, he led the organization's efforts to convert it into the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, which opened in October of 2009. Value $200.
