Dutchess County Historical Society (DCHS) Fundraising Auction of Unique Experiences and Gift Certificates Ending 10/24

100% of the auction proceeds benefit the DCHS. Every lot sells to the highest bidder. Payment will be made directly to DCHS, a 501-C3 Not for Profit Corporation so no sales tax will be charged. There is a 15% Buyers Premium which will also be going to the DCHS.

Please support the 100+ year old “Mission” of the DCHS that has “collected, preserved and interpreted the history of Dutchess County, NY, from the period of the arrival of the first Native Americans until the present day.”

Situated atop the highest point in Dutchess County, the Wethersfield estate and gardens in Amenia, New York is yours to enjoy in this exclusive tour. This private viewing includes the mansion and the traditional Italianate and wilderness gardens. If not the history then the architecture, fine art and antiques will dazzle you. After the main house and gardens see the carriage house museum. Wethersfield was built by Chauncey Stillman who was a director of Freeport-McMoRan an oil and mining enterprise. Although a gentleman farmer in Dutchess County Stillman lived through the Depression and served in World War II as a naval intelligence officer. Stillman’s life experiences contributed to his intellectual pursuits and factored into his conversion from the Episcopal faith to Catholicism. A passionate collector of fine art and sculpture, Stillman was an avid equestrian as well. Chauncey Stillman died in 1989. The Wethersfield Foundation continues to preserve and promote the Wethersfield Estate. While this tour is available at any time, consider the garden season!
