THEY SHALL BEAT THEIR SWORDS INTO PLOWSHARES. Sculpture by Romanian-born sculptor, Moisaye Marans, who emigrated to the US and became a citizen in 1939. He taught at Brooklyn College in New York City. The title is based on a passage in the Book of Isaiah, “…and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks”. This sculpture became the official symbol of the US Atomic Energy Commission. A 14 ft tall version can be found in the Community Church in New York City. The original and other works were stolen from the artist’s studio in 1977 and never recovered. This bronzed stone copy is on a custom base where the artist’s name appears. Acquired in 1968. H 22in with base.
