(B) Small vase-shaped pot excavated at the site of the ancient city of Djenne-Djeno near the current site of Djenne and south of Timbuktu, Mali. Djenne-Djeno was occupied for centuries before it declined in the 1400s and was replaced by Djenne as the southern terminus (South of Timbuktu) for the Trans-Saharan trade in salt, gold and other commodities. This ceramic probably dates from the 1400s. H 4.75in. (C) Hourglass shaped ceramic. Use not known. Excavated at site of Djenne-Djeno. Estimated to dated from the 1300s. H 5.75in.
