Straight Razor. A HERRESHOFF & SONS. This rare die cast aluminum handle has an awesome bicycle theme. Bicyclists on the front and a race happening on the pile side. figural cast aluminum handled straight razors are quite rare as aluminum was a new and expensive alloy at the time these Art Nouveau razors were popular. This would have been the top of their line for this maker. I think Kurt Moe kept everyone that he encountered, as he had more than anyone else that I know of. Some collectors are thrilled to be able to find one fancy aluminum handle that they can afford

Straight razor. D. MILLER. This carved genuine whalebone handle has inlaid pins, pique work, around the escutcheon plate. Note: Pique work was the art of inlaying tiny silver pins, by hand, into the predrilled holes of the pattern. It was a cottage industry done in homes around the manufacturing city of Sheffield. This artistry was popular from about 1820-1840's. Pique work was performed on horn, pearl, tortoiseshell, ivory and bone. You will not find two identical pieces. Even the pins are set by hand so they are not even in height.

Straight Razor. RODGERS. C-1810. The only pressed mottled horn handle pattern like this I have seen. The elaborate farm scene on each side is stamped ?MORTON.? I believe this is the designer/maker of the pressed horn handle. Previously, the only maker stamp I have encountered was ?Wilson.? I am always fascinated with early English manufacturing of American scenes of the early 19thC. Here we witness a farm with livestock with industriously cleared and cultivate land. Livestock was part of the landowners wealth. This was a time of "Manifest Destiny" and Americans were proudly expanding westward. Very rare.
