A very ornate cast aluminum handle having a goddess like woman on the front. Figural die cast aluminum handled straight razors are quite rare as aluminum was a new and expensive alloy at the time these Art Nouveau razors were popular. This would have been the top of their line for this maker. Straight razor. Illegible deep stamp on tang with remnant of maker and Warranted. Very rare 18thC American Revolutionary War period - Pre-1800 shaving instrument. This awesome example is from the “Lummus Collection,” as evidenced by the inventory number and dot codes at the head end of the pile side. The number is an inventory number from the Henry T. Lummus Collection assembled before 1920. Lummus wrote articles on straight Razor Collecting for "Antiques" magazine in the 1920's. The red dot pattern was some type of code that Henry applied to many of his straight razors. Although I bought his 500 piece collection from his Estate over 40 years ago, and tried to review all the designs to try and find what they had in common, I could not break the code.

He was interested in antiques, particularly in old razors and furniture, of which he had an extensive private collection.” “Henry Tilton Lummus was born in Lynn, December 28, 1876, the son of William and Louisa Mitchell (Brown) Lummus. He attended the Lynn schools, was graduated from the Lynn Classical High School in 1894, and from the Boston University Law School in 1897, heading his class and receiving the degree of Bachelor of Laws, summa cum laude.” He died in 1960 at the age of 84.

Straight Razor. ACME. A very nice figural die cast aluminum handle with a winged goddess on a winged wheel with scroll on the front and FAULTLESS and a small alligator raised on the pile side with raised scroll. Figural die cast aluminum handled straight razors are quite rare as aluminum was a new and expensive alloy at the time these Art Nouveau razors were popular. This would have been the top of their line for this maker.
