Straight Razor. Gilbert Brothers Sheffield. C-1825-35. Very rare heavily carved natural material handle having inlaid escutcheon plate surrounded by an elaborate design of “pique work” pins. Note: Pique work was the art of inlaying tiny silver pins, by hand, into the predrilled holes of the pattern. It was a cottage industry done in homes around the manufacturing city of Sheffield. This artistry was popular from about 1820-1840's. Pique work was performed on horn, pearl, tortoiseshell, ivory and bone. You will not find two identical pieces. WM & JG PARKER UNIVERSALLY APPROVED RAZOR. Circa 1820-30’s period decorated natural material handle with the symbol of the Half Horse/Half Alligator and “Old Kentuck” in scrimshawed banners. It is most associated with the Battle of New Orleans and General Andrew Jackson. Here is a quote from Davy Crockett: I'm half-horse, half-alligator and a little attached with snapping turtle. I've got the fastest horse, the prettiest sister, the surest rifle and the ugliest dog in Texas. My father can lick any man in Kentucky... and I can lick my father. I can hug a bear too close for comfort and eat any man alive opposed to Andy Jackson! Link to more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunters_of_Kentucky
