Lummus wrote articles onStraight Razor Collecting for "Antiques" magazine in the 1920's. The red dot pattern was some type of code that Henry applied to many of hisStraight razors. Although I bought his 500 piece collection from his Estate over 40 years ago, and tried to review all the designs to try and find what they had in common, I could not break the code. Another fine set ofStraight razors. This Joseph Rodger?s set of four natural handled razors fitted in a brass bound wood case is totally personalized for the owner ?D. G. Metheny, M.D.? most likely this was a prized gift. The handles are scrimshawed to match the engraving on the escutcheon plate of of lid of the case. A quick Google Search brings up some information on Dr. Metheny. It appears he was in Philadelphia. He donated to the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia and he provided lectures on ?Syndesmology,? the study of ligaments. A great set with provenance.
