This antelope rod puppet head, possibly Daje the roan antelope, has a lizard on the crown of its head and spotted lizards that may be chameleons on its horns. RITUAL PRIEST’S DUGE CHAINS (2) AND BRACELET. Dogon people, Mali. According to Dogon belief, the stones attached to the chain are duge which symbolize the bones of ancestors and the creator God’s egg from which the world was created. The stones are retrieved from caves where ancestors were buried. Probably dating from the early 20th century. (A) Bracelet and chain mounted in shadow box measuring H 16in W 12in. (B) Chain with elongated paired links of twisted iron and oval ritual stone in iron basket. L 14in. Iron, stone. (C) Chain with miniature blacksmith’s tongs and pins which are used ritually to defend against persons with evil intentions. Chain has finer links where it goes around wearer’s neck. L 23in. Iron.

G12: Round; G14 Square with one corner cut off to adjust the weight; G14C and G14D: Squares with swastika symbol. The swastika, a cruciform design, is an ancient motif with many meanings such as mysterious power and a crossroad. Among the Akan people of Ghana, it is called "the monkey's foot". BANDAKA “JELLYFISH” FORM CURRENCY. Mambila and Chamba people, Cameroon. The semi-oval blade is divided into 2 sections separated by a narrow spine that arises from the handle. The lower edge of one half of the blade is rippled and a knob protrudes from the other half. The upper third of the handle just below the blade is wrapped with an iron band, presumably to add greater importance to the object. The lower end of the shaft is curved like an umbrella handle. The name, Bandaka, comes from the name of a small village where these objects were first found by explorers around 1900, but it is not known if these objects are produced in this village, On custom base.
