Rare Cased 7-Day Set having one handle and 7 blades, one for every day of the week. C-1820. The interior lid of the case, and all blade tangs are marked “Cadman.” This complete set has wedge blades with the days of the week engraved on the top of each blade. The ornately carved natural material handle has an inlaid pattern of “pique work” pins on the front side. Note: Pique work was the art of inlaying tiny silver pins, by hand, into the predrilled holes of the pattern. It was a cottage industry done in homes around the manufacturing city of Sheffield. This artistry was popular from about 1820-1840's. Pique work was performed on horn, pearl, tortoiseshell, ivory and bone. You will not find two identical pieces. Even the pins are set by hand so they are not even in height. These one Handled seven day sets are extremely rare and were produced for a very short period of time, approximately 1820-1840. Further, each locking device is numbered to correspond with the specific shaped tang that fits it. In this case the number is "8” which is on the tangs. You could not lock these blades into the handle of any other similar set. The lined case is leather covered wood. This is one of the finest, early 7-Day sets I have ever seen.

Cased Matched Pair of Presentation Joseph Rodgers & Sons Sheffield Straight Razors fitted in an ornate lined case having an engraved large escutcheon plate attached to the exterior top. Ornate pair of razors have the tops of both blades stamped “DAMASCUS STEEL.” The tangs are stamped W. Crown R. Next to the Rodger’s maker stamp. (W(crown)R" dating the manufacturing date to between 1830-37 for King William of England.) The exquisite handles are comprised of six panels of mother of pearl attached to liners on each of the two razors. The panels are carved and checkered and inlaid with pique work silver pins and escutcheon plates. The panels are attached to the metal liners for support and are flanked at each end with fancy metal caps. The lined presentation case has advertising on the interior of the lid. Note: Joseph Rodgers & Sons Cutlers to Their Majesties #6 Norfolk Street Sheffield. They were in business from 1670-1970. They made some of the finest straight razors to come out of Sheffield during the 1800’s. The metal plate on the lid is beautifully engraved with a presentation message.

Cased Matched Pair of genuine tortoiseshell handle Straight Razors from the infamous Henry T. Lummus Collection. “C. STEWART & CO” maker. C-1820’s. The handles are inlaid with monogrammed shield shaped escutcheon plates.  When I purchased the Lummus Collection many years ago, there were only a couple of sets. He mainly collected rare and unusual, early single razors. Note: The number 1375 on the blade is an inventory number from the Henry T. Lummus Collection assembled before 1920. Lummus wrote articles on straight Razor Collecting for "Antiques" magazine in the 1920's. (I bought his 500 piece collection from his Estate over 40 years ago.)
