Historic Preservationist Jeffrey Morgan will escort you and your group up to 6 people on Private Tour of Seven Hearths located in the Flanders Historic District of Kent, Connecticut! After your tour enjoy some wine and cheese.

Seven Hearths is a pre-Revolutionary war building built in 1751 by John Beebe, Jr. and the building served as the Beebe family home, as well as general store, butcher shop and a fur trading post. This imposing structure was purchased in 1919 by the internationally acclaimed twentieth century artist, George Laurence Nelson and his beautiful wife Helen who lovingly restored the house and made it their home.

George Laurence Nelson was born in New Rochelle in 1887, the son of artists Carl and Alice Kerr Nelson. As a child he started drawing and in 1904 won a contest for a crayon sketch of cows sponsored by Crayola Crayons. After studying in Europe and Nelson established himself in New York City as a portrait and landscape painter. Married to Helen for 56 years, George met his future wife when she came to his studio to interview him. He painted her instead of the interview and called her the most beautiful girl in the world. Nelson cultivated an art colony in Litchfield County and was one of the nine founders of The Kent Art Association.

After Nelson's death in 1978. He willed the house to The Kent Historical Society. The large two-story house is on the National Register for Historic Places and is superbly appointed with period furnishings and interior accessories that reflect phases of Kent history that were part of the occupants' lives. The house also boasts a trading post upstairs, along with an impressive collection of paintings by George Laurence Nelson. George and Helen were warm and colorful participants in all the activities of Kent during their lives there.

Mr. Morgan's knowledge of architecture and history makes this private tour a must for history and art lovers. Value $300
