Set back in time and meet a 19th century resident of Schultzville, Theodore "Gus" Schultz (1838-1862) portrayed (in period costume) by Craig Marshall, Town of Clinton Historian. Visit this quiet corner in the Town of Clinton and see it as "Gus" did in the 1850s. Learn the history of the hamlet where little has changed since 1807 when it was founded by John Fredrick Schultz. Tour past John Schultz's early residence where he settled his family and then across the street his son's 1856 mansion. Walk through the center of the hamlet to the 1850s schoolhouse, Christian Church and Parsonage (1865), Blacksmith Shop (c1850) and hear the history of many other structures visible from the roadside. Your destination will be a special inside tour of the 1865 Masonic Hall. Walk into the beautifully restored building and revel at the craftsmanship of the unique original wainscot barrel ceiling and admire the life-sized portrait of Gus. See vintage photographs of several landmarks along the tour and those that have since been lost like the original grist mill and saw mill. Included is a tour for up to 10 people. Tour length is about 1 hour and covers approximately one mile. Value $200. If this item isn't for you, please consider becoming a Member or making a donation to DCHS here: https://dchsny.org/short/.
