Caitlin considers herself fortunate to have grown up surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. After moving to New York Caitlin worked in journalism and design. Blue Dot Jewelry began when Caitlin discovered precious metal clay. For her, silver clay was an answer to the question of how to create lasting jewelry that captures and pays homage to the ethereal details of the natural world. This clay is composed of microscopic particles of silver suspended in a small amount of organic material. Once a piece is dried and kiln fired, the pure silver (.999) is all that remains. Caitlin’s unique method incorporates leaves and seeds, shells and other collected bits either directly into the process or for inspiration.

The Dutchess County Historical Society is proud to offer a gift certificate to own a unique cyanotype print by Poughkeepsie artist Julia Whitney Barnes! Julia’s vibrant cyanotypes are created on cotton paper using a variety of weeds and flowers with added layers of watercolor, gouache and ink producing vibrant and powerful compositions. Julia Whitney Barnes has exhibited locally and nationally as well as in Denmark, Germany and Italy. “The cyan imagery becomes the underpainting or grisaille and then I meticulously paint the exposed watercolor paper with a multitude of layers of color. I am most interested in creating objects that feel both beautiful and mysterious. I want each painting to be familiar yet slightly outside of time. These works will always symbolize resilience to me.”

Your exclusive private tour of Rokeby mansion in Barrytown, New York will dazzle your senses with its distinguished interiors and notable local history. Built 200 years ago on land granted by the Crown in 1688, Rokeby has remained in the family for generations. Beginning in the 18th century as tenant farms the landlords included Colonel Henry Beekman, Margaret Beekman and Alida Livingston. Alida, and her husband General John Armstrong developed their land holdings into a successful farm and built the main house.

Generations later the death of William B. Astor in 1875, left Rokeby to Astor’s granddaughter Margaret Astor Ward, niece of Julia Ward Howe (author of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic") and wife of Congressman John Winthrop Chanler. The Chanlers died shortly thereafter, leaving the place to their ten children who ranged in age from six months to twelve years old. For twenty years, Rokeby served as a private orphan asylum for the rambunctious heirs. By 1899, Margaret Livingston Chanler had bought out the interest of her siblings, and had started a dairy operation at Rokeby. Descendants continue to live at Rokeby a 43 room mansard roof mansion and farm.

The tour will also include the barns where Superior Concept Monsters, operated by family members, designs and creates puppets and artwork to preserve, promote, and develop public processions and pageant puppetry as a distinct and vital artform.

Bill Jeffway, DCHS Executive Director, will personally produce a two to three minute video that tells the story that you want to tell. It could be the story of the evolution of your business, it could be a family member telling us the stories behind an old photo album while we look at the images...Your choice. If you provide up to a dozen still images, we will capture the audio narration through a simple method like a smartphone. An example of this type of video is at this link, although this auction item does not include new on camera footage of a person or persons speaking: www.dchsny.org/we-believe.

We will need one person who is the person that is engaged to develop the video, although it can be viewed by literally everyone, or whomever you choose. The goal is to complete the video by June 30, 2022 with these parameters: the video will be produced and available three weeks after all the images and audio files, in other words all the content, is provided and agreed as serviceable. The audio can be obtained with our help recording it, or simply provided by the auction winner providing it.

Historic, imported Royal Doulton 1910 plate featuring Poughkeepsie Van Kleeck House. The Dutchess County Society in the City of New York was founded in 1896. Not to be confused with the Dutchess County Historical Society (founded in 1914), this earlier organization was organized by and for elite and successful men of the county who lived primarily in New York City. The goal was to both create a fraternal organization of mutual support, as well as keep up ties “back home.” The highlight of the year was the prestigious annual dinner that traditionally offered some kind of souvenir. Between 1910 and 1917 a total of seven white Royal Doulton plates were created specifically for the Society and imported from England. Each featured a historic Dutchess County location surrounded by tulips to acknowledge the county’s earliest Dutch settlers. 10 1/2 inch diameter. The plate given out in 1910 features the earliest significant home in Poughkeepsie, the Van Kleeck House at what is today Mill and Vassar Streets. The back of the plate reads, “The Van Kleeck House, Poughkeepsie, NY. Built by Baltus Van Kleeck in 1702, demolished in 1835.” This item must be picked up or shipped using a third party shipper.
