Straight Razor. T. HESSEN BRUCH & CO. Germany. Very ornate die cast aluminum handle having raised Trade Mark of Bear, and the word “Inspection” meaning that the razor will “Bear Inspection.” The case handle also has a raised goddess figure and Art Nouveau scroll. The blade is fully etched ROGERS & MILLER. Figural die cast aluminum handled straight razors are quite rare as aluminum was a new and expensive alloy at the time these Art Nouveau razors were popular. This would have been the top of their line for this maker.

Straight Razor. TILLOTSON & SONS “UNION RAZOR” SHEFFIELD. A fantastic American Civil War period straight razor having a full Patriotic etched blade and black Buffalo horn handle. The fully etched wedge blade has a spread American Eagle with lots of patriotic slogans. C-1860’s. Very rare.

The imitation ivory celluloid handle is embossed with scroll surrounding the word “Warranted.” This Exhibition is celebrating the Louisiana Purchase. The very ornate figural imitation ivory handle with raised beaded pattern has a lighthouse and sailboat scene. This celluloid Handle is quite rare. It is not in the book “Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors Reflecting on Fifty Years of Handle Designs (1870-1920)” By Robert A. Doyle. This is the only one of this pattern I have seen.
